I saw a play today
A social commentary about how we live our lives
But the only thing that it got right
Was when the main character dies
I saw the news today
To see how the world is goin' to shit
But I ate my cereal and thought about it
It's always been doin' this
So I get out of bed
If only for my morning coffee
Or the episode of Seinfeld on at ten
'Cause most of my days are inconsequential
Or at least I perceive them to be
And the instagram feed shows lives that don't exist
Yet have authority over my fragile happiness
Because we're all shown pictures of who we're supposed to be
Without regard to our own true beauty
So I get into bed today
To end a day I'll probably forget I lived anyway
'Cause when I'm finally layin' in my grave
Both my best and worst days will be erased away
So I get out of bed
If only for my morning coffee
Or the episode of Seinfeld on at ten
'Cause most of my days are inconsequential
Or at least I perceive them to be
Which is not very beneficial
Especially to the small optimist in me
